Screening of Fargo (18)

Friday 27 January

Doors open at 6:30 pm, the film starts at 7:30 pm

At The Parade, Hoylake Community Centre, Hoyle Road, Hoylake

Licensed bar and homemade snacks available

Tickets cost £5

Available online at www.hoylakevillage.org.uk (click “What’s On”);
Or at Urbane, Market Street; The Parade Hoylake Community Centre, Hoyle Road;
Or on the door on the night

Hoylake Community Cinema continues to grow from strength to strength as another film night comes to Hoylake this month. The community group Hoylake Village Life are showing their fourth film in the year-long schedule with the screening of Fargo, a thriller by Joel and Ethan Coen, on Friday 27 January.

The last film, It’s a Wonderful Life, shown before Christmas, attracted a sell-out audience. HVL member Richard Stowe said: “Our film nights have gathered momentum, and to have achieved a full house with only our third film is remarkable. We are anticipating a large turn-out again for Fargo as word of Hoylake Community Cinema spreads.”

Hoylake resident Melanie Bird said: “It was sad to see Hoylake’s only cinema, The Classic, close in the 1990s, especially since members of my family used to work there. I think Hoylake Village Life have done a great job by introducing monthly film nights to Hoylake. Some complain that there’s nothing to do, but this addresses that head-on. People feel there is a real buzz in Hoylake now.”

HVL is also looking to bring Saturday Matinees for the kids to The Parade, Hoylake Community Centre. Plans are being put in place to offer parents the chance to leave their children with CRB-checked childminders to watch a film, and then collect them later. Parents will be free to shop or have coffee in one of the many cafés and restaurants in nearby Market Street.

Tickets for Fargo cost £5 and are available from gift shop Urbane, The Parade, Hoylake Community Centre, on the door, and online at www.hoylakevillage.org.uk. Doors open at 6.30 pm; the film starts at 7.30 pm sharp. There is a licensed bar and the added attraction of a quiz after the film, with prizes for the winner and runner-up. Early booking is advised.

Jan writes:

Happy New year.

Although there is a lot of doom and gloom in the press our country is set for a very exciting year with the Jubilee and the olympics.
Hoylake has the opportunity to showcase itself to the world in so many ways especially with ladies golf tournament in September.
There are many groups in Hoylake working very hard to make this a special place to live and work and play, Hoylake and Meols in bloom is one of those groups.
Vicky has come up with some very exciting plans for 2012 but we will need a lot of support and committment to pull it off.
To this end I am holding a coffee morning/meeting for all volunteers old and new (tea ,coffee and cake) at Dane Cottage, 11 Ethelbert Lane, Meols on Sat 28th Jan at 11am.
We will reveal our plans to you then so that we can decide together how it can be done.

We would be delighted to welcome anyone who would like to help even for a few hours here and there. Everything helps.

You can contact Jan Foster on jan@valleybreak.co.uk or phone 07725 540049

Stars’ Support for Hoylake Cinema!

Screening of It’s a Wonderful Life

Sunday 18 December

Doors open at 4:30 pm; film starts at 5:30 pm

The Parade, Hoylake Community Centre, Hoyle Road, Hoylake

Local residents are celebrating the launch of Hoylake Community Cinema, and Hoylake’s famous celebrities are fully behind it.

After the success of the first two films, Nowhere Boy and Regeneration, community group Hoylake Village Life have put together a programme of films to be shown every month. The launch of Hoylake Community Cinema has been endorsed by James Bond actor, Daniel Craig, who said ‘Congratulations. What a wonderful thing. Good luck with everything. Much love’. Acting legend Glenda Jackson was also fully behind the idea, ‘I remember when there was a cinema in every town…so I was thrilled to hear about this wonderful new community cinema run by volunteers in my much loved home town of Hoylake.’

The programme of classic and independent films continues with a screening of It’s a Wonderful Life at The Parade, Hoylake Community Centre, on Sunday 18 December. Group member John Hall said, ‘This is a truly wonderful film and we are giving families the chance to experience this, the ultimate Christmas feel-good movie, on a large screen in a true community atmosphere.’ John went on to say, ‘After Regeneration, everyone wanted to know what our next film would be, and the response to It’s a Wonderful Life was overwhelming, so we are expecting a full house.’

Vaughan Williams, Chairman of The Parade, Hoylake Community Centre, said ‘The enthusiasm and encouragement shown by the audiences at the first two film nights proves there is a strong demand for the return of cinema to Hoylake, and we are fully behind the Hoylake Community Cinema initiative.’

It’s a Wonderful Life starts at the earlier time of 5.30 pm, but doors open at 4.30 pm so that the audience can enjoy mulled wine and mince pies before the film begins. HVL hope that some of the audience will stay after the film to have a drink and a chat with group members. Tickets cost £5 and are available from Urbane on The Row, The Parade, online at www.hoylakevillage.org.uk and on the door. However, numbers are limited, so advanced booking is advised.
