With reference to James`s comment regarding Rudd Street I can confirm that my grandfather Jesse Bird lived at No. 31 in the early 1900`s and that my father was born there in 1909.

The warehouse also belonged to the Bird family and was used for storage in connection with their Furniture removal business.
Unfortunately I do not have any old photos of the house in Rudd Street( prior to living in Rudd Street they lived in Walker Street)

My uncle owned the old West Kirby Auction rooms and Talbot Wilson removals business so was presumably a competitor of the Birds!

I believe that I live in Jesse Bird Jrs house on Rudd Street, Hoylake (according to an old phone directory). Was he Syds grandfather? My house is just a stones throw from Jesses Yard on Market Street and the large warehouse next door to me was presumably connected with the removal business too?
I would be intrigued to see any pictures of the house etc from those days if possible.

What memories the Jesse Bird van brings back. They “moved” my husband and I twice in the early ’60s. Once from Wallasey to Bidston and then from Bidston to Meols. Possibly the same van.

re the phone number- I well recall my family’s first number when we moved in 1959 to Hoylake- 2004.

These old photos evoke such memories of what now seems like another age.
