On 19 March 1938, Hoylake YMCA (the 1937 winners) were opposed by Latter Day Saints for The George Williams Trophy. This game won by Hoylake YMCA was the first game to be broadcast on radio with a running commentary being given during the final. A year later, his 60th minute goal enabled Rhyl to become only the second Welsh Premiership side to win a European tie in the UEFA Cup.
