Looking for persons: Barker

David Barker writes:

Can anyone help me to find the son and daughter of George Barker who was the verger for many years at the parish church and lived just across the road form the church. His wife’s name was Emily, and his son was Arnold, who was a policeman. His daughter’s name was Sylvia, they would be in there 60s plus now. I have some info that Arnold may have moved to Spain.

I have not lived in England since 1964 and have lost contact with the family, as I am now in my 70′s I would like to let them know that I am still alive and kicking.

Much appreciate any help.

    Hi David,
This is a long shot – but here goes :–

I went looking for the grave of my Great Grandfather William Trueman in Holy Trinity Church yard.
I was unsuccessful, so I went along to St Hildeburgh, and there I met the Verger [who had transferred from Holy Trinity)
It was my lucky day. From a drawer in his table, he drew out a grave plan of Holy Trinity Church yard.
Within seconds - he had found and pointed to my Great Grandfather's grave plot.
I argued that the name on the plot was "FREEMAN", but he was adamant
"I was there at his burial, and also used to live next door to him!" he said.
That was good enough for me.
However, I can't remember the Verger's name. I also assumed that his address was in Groveland Avenue.
I now believe that my Great Grandfather moved from Groveland Avenue to "Church View", where he died in 1948. I remember the long garden as I went in through his back gate from the road. He was growing Sunflowers for his parrot !
As I say - it is a long shot - but it would be marvellous if the Verger had lived next door to my Great Grandfather in Church View.
    Best Regards,
    Ricky Cooper. [alive and kicking]

    To John, Admin

Tried to send my Comments to David Barker via the Web Address “sristkids@wideband.net.au”
    – but it bounced, so David Barker won’t have received my Comments directly.
    – Do we assume that he will read them via “Hoylake Junction ?”

    • That’s the correct email address and is still valid. See below for another request.
