I live in Mol, Belgium (local town hall pictured) and am a local WWII researcher and I’m trying to find as much information as possible of the soldiers who died in my town trying to liberate it.
One of the men killed in my town and buried is Corporal Crowhurst. I know he lived at 80 Trinity Road, Hoylake Cheshire. He was the son of Percy James Crowhurst and Ruth Louise Crowhurst. He also was married with Jessie Marjorie Crowhurst. He was born sometime in 1914 since he was 30 when he was killed on 16/09/1944 when serving The Middlesex Regiment.
I hope you can help me and maybe get me in contact with his relatives?
Can you help? Please leave a comment below or email Gil directly gil.geerings [ @ ] telenet.be
Hi Gil,
My mom lives opposite the town hall in Mol, and I live in Hoylake, on the Wirral. I was born in Mol and all my family live in and around Mol.
I might not be able to give you any information but I will try and see if I can find anything about Corp. Crowhurst.
It is a small world 🙂
thx for your help! I really appreciate it!
Hi, my friend and colleague at Wirral in old photographs on Facebook has posted this request and another friend and member of there group, Amanda has come up with some information. I will see if Sue can post it here. Best wishes, Mark Hughes (Wirral in old photographs and West Kirby Museum)
From Amanda on Facebook’s Wirral in old photographs:
Percival James Crowhurst b.1914, Bromley, Kent to Percy James Thomas Crowhurst and Ruth Louisa Hoadley. Married Jessie Marjorie Dunmall 1942 in Bromley. No evidence of any children or of them living in Hoylake. Jessie’s death was registered in Bromley, Kent in 1999 aged 85, suggesting she had never moved out of the area. Jessie had an older brother Robert who married Percy’s sister, Edith in 1931 and they appear to have had 5 sons, Edward, Eric, James, Robert and Thomas, between 1931 and 1949, who might be the closest living relatives. All this in Kent, so not sure of the Hoylake connection.

A follow up message from Amanda in Wirral in old photographs:
……helped by the fact that Crowhurst, Hoadley and Dunmall are not that common! Very sadly in the 1911 census, although having a son Claude and daughter Edith, Percy’s parents (calling themselves just James & Louisa) had lost a son James Hoadley Crowhurst. 🙁

thx for all your work! I hope we get there…
In the meantime I found out how and the exact place where he was killed:
His carrier was hit by german artillery near the canal in Mol Donk. Another member of his platoon was also killed and 2 were seriously injured.
