Road Traffic Accident Fatalities

December 17, 2009 by John · 2 Comments

20-signThe BBC have published some rather grim road traffic accident figures including the number of fatalities on our roads.

According to the figures the last recorded road fatality in the Hoylake area was back in February 2002. The main road through west Wirral and that passes through both Meols and Hoylake is the A553, turning into the A540 from West Kirby at the Kings Gap roundabout – a busy road, especially during morning and evening peak periods.

Have you noticed the 20 mph road signs dotted around locally? I can’t recall if there are any in Hoylake but you’ll see some in Meols …Cleveley Road is one example. These 20 mph zones are in the proximity of schools and are an attempt to reduce the number of serious road traffic accidents during school run times.

Don’t want to be a pedant but the A540 Hoylake-Chester road starts at the King’s Gap roundabout as obviously does the A553 Hoylake-Birkenhead road!
