The Hoylake RNLI (website – has lots of great old photos) crew published this photo a week or so ago of The Lady of Hilbre lifeboat sailing back home after being out on exercise. The light on the horizon is the lifeboat station.
I really like this photo as it shows a view that I and probably most of you don’t get to see. Have you been down on the prom when it’s dark? If not you should as it’s great to all the boats and rigs all lit up out on the horizon. At the moment there’s a repair vessel out at the wind turbines (gear box repairs I understand) and that looks quite good at night. On some nights you wonder what all the vessels are doing there as there so many!
To see what vessels are coming in and out of Liverpool take a look at AIS Liverpool and if you’re on twitter then you might want to follow @merseyshipping which auto-tweets when vessels (except Royal Navy ones) cross an imaginary line at the mouth of the River Mersey.
