Established in 1944, the gardening club has a current, enthusiastic membership of 85, with a full programme of events throughout the year. It’s a very friendly club, catering for gardeners of all abilities.
From September to June, the Society meets on the 2nd Wednesday of the month, at 7.45pm at West Kirby Concourse, for a talk by a professional on some aspect of gardening. The programme is very varied from head gardeners and Chelsea Gold medallists on plants, to talks on wildlife, herbal medicines, vegetable growing and beekeeping to name a few. Talks are followed by tea, coffee and biscuits with a chance to chat to the speaker and of course, to other members.
Guests are always welcome at £1.50 per visit. During the summer months, there are coach trips to prestigious gardens in the North of England, plus visits to private gardens in the area. Other club benefits include a chance of advice from members on any gardening problem, access to gardening magazines, and leaflets on forthcoming events in the North West, plus 10% discount off purchases from The Garden House garden centre, Chester High Road, Heswall.
Subscription is £10 pa, with meetings free to members and £1.50 to guests.
