Hoylake In Bloom: Latest News

Here is an update on the activities of Hoylake and Meols in Bloom, kindly sent in by Jan Foster. Great news to hear of bat and bird boxes in Queens Park  - I didn’t even know there are bats in Hoylake! Anyway, here’s the news:

Whilst the winter months have given us a reprieve from watering we have not been sitting back (well not much anyway). The hard winter does not seem to have done too much damage to our plants. The bulbs are all coming up well.

We have paid for a new wildlife hedge and replaced two beds of Rosa Regosa in Queens Park.

The children from Holy Trinity Primary School will, in future, be putting up bat and bird boxes in the park. Mark, our hardworking park keeper and the team, have done all the hard work of preparing the beds and planting. We have just cut back the grasses in the parade gardens. Once again we were blessed with lovely weather!

DATES FOR YOUR DIARY.

May 7th: De-planting day
May 21st: Planting day
Anyone wishing to help please call me or email me (07725 540049 jan@valleybreak.co.uk)

June 11th:  Our big fundraising garden party and plant bring and buy sale at Dane Cottage, 11 Ethelbert Lane, Meols 12noon until 4pm. Again if you wish to help you could:-

  • Bake some cakes
  • Grow some plants for us to sell
  • Donate a raffle prize
  • Come and help on the day

If you would just like to come along all are welcome. There is a small entrance fee and there will will be a super raffle!

If you are not a member of Hoylake and Meols in Bloom collect a form from the library. If you joined last year please dont forget to pay your subs this year. £5 single or £7.50 family. By joining you won’t be asked to do any work, unless you want to, we just need your money to keep Hoylake the best floral town on the Wirral. If lots of people pay a little we can easily raise the £2500 to £3000 needed.

You can also help by putting your change in the collection boxes around town ie library, post office, Fahys bakers, News Mag, 3 Sisters and Meols Chemist. It soon adds up, although it will be a pain having no bank to take the change to!!!!!!

We do not get any financial help from the council whatsoever.

Best wishes to all.
