A few items of news and follow-ups to old posts.
Have you noticed all the new rubbish bins dotted along the promenade?
As you can see from the photo we appear to have moved up-market and we’ve now got marked reciprocals for gum and butts no less!
I think I’m right in saying that there are also a number of new benches along the promenade too. What with the revamped boating lake and necessary repairs to the walls and fences at the Parade Gardens it’s good to see some improvements being made down on the front. Much more is needed of course.
Remember a while back I posted a photo about a cast iron thingy on Kings Gap? The thingy turned out to a gas vent pipe for the drains. Well I knew I’d seen another somewhere and earlier this week I found it on the corner of Clydesdale Road.
Do you know of any others?
I’ve no idea if these still work …I don’t suppose that they do. But if they do then I guess there might be a bit of a pong now and again?
For years, there has been a rather sorry looking garage in Chapel Road behind the Evangelical Church.
Well as you can see it’s gone. I don’t yet know what is going to replace it.
By the way, look at that slope on the church roof! I’ve never noticed that before.
It was a nice sunny afternoon earlier today and the crown green bowlers were out in force competing on the bowling green. I happened to bump into Jackie Hall who told me that they were taking part in the Autumn Cup, which is a regular fixture and the proceeds of which are normally donated to Melrose Hall. This is because of the association between the bowlers and the old Melrose Club.
This years proceeds however are kindly being donated to the model boating lake fund. Around £200 is expected to be donated!
