    Yes, the Cottage Hospital is behind the box on the corner of Deneshey Road. I often used to stand outside the box at an agreed time so my mother could talk to her brother in Uxbridge (doing the same public callbox trick – no one I knew had phones those days). Imagine our horror when we found someone already in the box having a long chat to a friend. We used to prowl around the box and glare at the poor caller!
    You had button A (talk) and button B (refund if no answer). The various coins used to hit different toned gongs inside the box as they went in, so the operator could hear the coins drop and make sure you payed for your trunk call.
