Many thanks to Syd Bird for today’s two baking related photos, starting with George L Beck above. The signage on the side of the trap says George L Beck, Plain & Fancy Bread Baker. I wonder what the difference was between a plain and fancy loaf?
Below is a photo of J.J. Broster of 16 Walker Street. Now I thought that No16 would be Molly’s Bakery (formerly Malcolm’s Bakery) but that’s No 11 on the other side of the road. That place was until recently up for sale. By the way, we’ve discussed Brosters before.

I well remember Becks Bakery just round the corner from Steve Parr’s butchers. On queuing up for hot cross buns you received a bakers dozen – thirteen for the price of twelve!

i’ve just come across your post.
I don’t know if you still live there but i’m afraid that you won’t find any pictures of you house as the bakery as the bakery was next door at 11a and 13. Your house was the dwelling house for the family and except for a bit of renovation the frontage looks little different from the way it does now, sorry to give you this news.
My house over the road at 16 was the original Brosters Bakery from 1906 to 1911 (taken on from previous bakers) and like your house no. 14 was the dwelling house for the family when Brosters moved from my house to your side of the road in 1912.
