Orange Lodge march through Hoylake

The Liverpool Orange Lodge marched through Hoylake on Bank Holiday Monday. The march takes a route of along Birkenhead Road from St John’s Church in Meols, along Market Street, down Kings Gap and along North Parade to the lifeboat station. Due to the road works at Kings Gap the marchers had to follow the diversion of course.

As I mentioned last year, Kings Gap is so called because King William III of England (wikipedia) set sail from the Hoylake shoreline in 1690 with a 10,000 strong army to take part in the Battle of the Boyne (wikipedia). You can read more about what an Orange Order is on this wikipedia page.
