While the country is building up to mark the Diamond Jubilee this weekend, here’s a topical photo kindly sent to me by Syd Bird. Syd sent it a while back and I’ve kept it back until this weekend.
Queen Victoria reached her Diamond Jubilee in 1897 and judging by today’s photo it was well celebrated in Hoylake. Despite some of the focus issues with such an old photo you can clearly see the procession tailing all the way back down Market Street from The Quadrant. The bank sign is for the North and South Wales Bank by the way.
I don’t expect Hoylake will see such a procession this weekend though there are a few street parties taking place locally and Hoylake Parade is hosting a Jubilee Big Lunch.
Just to point out Ferndale Road is holding a Big Lunch Sunday 12 noon
