Many thanks to David Heron for recently capturing this urban (coastal?) fox down on the promenade. I’d not seen a fox around here for absolutely ages until about two weeks ago when I saw one at lunchtime in a front garden of a house on Meols Drive with what looked like a rabbit in it’s mouth! Hoylake Junction reader Julia Kempster has seen a fox recently around Courtney Road, so there’s at least a couple about. How about you, have you seen a fox in Hoylake recently?
PS: For those that can’t see it, the fox is just behind the black gates.
Hi John, as we have Chickens in our back garden we are well aware they are about, as other hen keepers in Hoylake & Meols have had them taken by Mr Fox. In fact we have heard foxes barking at very early hours (3am) in our road & have seen one too walking past our drive!
Luckily our Chickens are safely locked away at night.
Also, people should be sure their dogs are fully vaccinated as foxes carry all sorts of nasties for dogs, not least of which distemper.
One wanders up and down Park Road , Meols .
Ruth Enfield comments:
We recently moved from Meols Parade, but while living there I used to watch a beautiful fox on the front lawn. He would use the same route most evenings…. a lovely sight.
A fox is regularly visiting our garden in The King’s Gap. Someone took a photo of it recently so I’ll try and get a copy to send.
Simon O’Connell emails:
Foxes have been seen almost daily in Bertram Drive, Meols, over the last couple of months: they seem to be quite bold and have been spotted throughout the day in both front and back gardens: a pair sitting on the shed roof, walking around the garden, in the driveway. Three foxes identified, one quite young.
