The Royal Liverpool Golf Club, commonly known as Hoylake is one of the courses included in the charity fund-raising Willow Open Golf Challenge. Four golfers will attempt a unique sporting feat – to play all six English golf courses that have hosted the Open Championship in one day.
The Willow Foundation is a national charity established in 1999 by Arsenal legend Bob Wilson and his wife Megs in memory of their daughter. The charity provides special days for seriously ill 16 – 40 year olds and aims to offer  much needed time out from the stresses of living with a life-threatening condition.
In one day the four golfers aim to play all six English golf courses that have hosted the Open Championship . Hoylake hosted the Open most recently in the glorious summer of 2006 of course and is rumoured to host it again in 2014.
The golfers will play 108 holes, walk at least 35 miles, and travel more than 350 miles between courses in just 24 hours. They will be the first golfers in recorded history to have completed this unique challenge. To enable the greatest amount of daylight hours, the challenge attempt will be made on the longest day – Sunday 21 June, 2009. They’ll be using a helicopter to travel between courses and are scheduled to tee off at Hoylake at 13:45.
