There’s been quite a big crane on the development site at the end of Meols Drive for a couple of days this week.

The site is at 4 Meols Drive and is known as The Old Garden. It’s being redeveloped and the construction of a new care home is now well underway. As construction work is currently at the back of the site a long-reach crane is being used to move pre-cast concrete slabs from lorries on the road.

What a very sad sight! The Old Garden was a charming gem hidden away behind its high walls. I well remember the Jaeger sisters allowing me and a friend to collect conkers from the very fine horse chestnut tree in the back garen. It was a gorgeous old cottage surrounded by a lovely old-fashioned cottage garden that has now been bulldozed. Although, I understand the cottage is being retained, its setting will be damaged irrevocably by a large institutional building in its grounds.

Hello, I met a lovely, elderly lady a few weeks ago who is trying to reconnect with an old friend of hers, lived opposite her in Meol Drive. The elderly gentleman was named David Jaeger (please excuse the spelling if incorrect). I noted a recent obituary of the same name recently who died in December 2018, and am hoping that it is not the same person. I would prefer not distressing my friend without good reason. Is there any way that you could clarify whether this is the same gentleman.
    Many thanks. Gee
