So sorry to hear of your sorry predicament back in 1943. Sounds like the park was in a bad way even back then. Would love to hear about any more recollections you have of the park
Thanks

Are you the same Arthur who used to have a dog called Chris
YES CHRIS WAS OUR DOG .HE SAVED MY BROTHER JIMS LIFE ,WHEN A BOY TRIED TO WHEEL AWAY
HIS PRAM FROM OUTSIDE 11 NEWTON RD .THE BOY THEN TOKE A BABY GIRL FROM OUTSIDE A SHOP
ON MARKET ST. AND PUSHED THE PRAM WITH THE BABY IN IT ,INTO A POND AND DROWNED HER.
JIM NOW LIVES IN TOOWOOMBA AUSTRALIA
ARE YOU MARGOS SISTER CAROL ?IF SO HOW IS SHE ? AND IS YOUR MUM STILL WITH US ?
arthur
Crikey, I remember my mum telling me that sad story as well. I wonder if the pond was one of the ones in Fornalls Green lane?
YES I THINK IT WAS THE ONE CALLED THE FIGURE OF EIGHT ,TWO RAF LADS SAW THE PRAM IN THE
WATER AND PULLED IT OUT WHEN THAY SAW THAT THE BABY WAS STILL IN THE PRAM
ARTHUR
Thanks Arthur,
I fell into one of those darn ponds and had to explain to my mum why I was so wet! I think that prompted my mum to tell me the story. The water was crystal clear and at the edge where I fell in about 3 foot deep.
We have lost so many of our ponds, great for aquatic life, fishing etc. Maybe a subject for another thread on this site, I rememer the Heron Road pond opposite the AA battery site half way on the way to four lane end.
I guess we have to thank health and safetey for that. Someone told me a lot of our ponds were the result of the ice age, pressing ice blocks into the clay which eventually thawed and left the pond..
