Hoylake HSBC: Residents to fight closure plans

hoylake HSBC bank

It seems that the Hoylake branch of HSBC Bank is scheduled to be closed in March 2011.

I’ve received confirmation on twitter that when HSBC Hoylake account users log in online they receive an email with notification of the forthcoming closure. The bank is the only remaining branch of a high street bank in Hoylake. Account holders are being told that will have to use either the West Kirby or Moreton branches. I have emailed the HSBC press department asking for more information but they haven’t replied back as yet.

Jackie Hall informs me that concerned residents and businesses can sign a petition against the closure tomorrow morning (Friday 10th Dec) from 9.30 am outside the bank at The Quadrant. The Wirral News is sending a reporter along to cover the story as well. I might not be able to make it myself so if anyone can provide photos and an update please do get in touch.

What do you think about the closure? Share your thoughts in the comments below.

Well I’m not happy about it, I do my personal and business banking in Hoylake. There is always somewhere to park and I feel safe being close to the bank. Same can not be said for either the Moreton or West Kirby branch.

However the bank is also making other changes and my floating relationship manager will now be tethered to Liverpool rather than Birkenhead, so I feel our complaints will fall on deaf ears!

I’m very unhappy – many people can not manage to physically get to WKirby branch.

Why they think we will be overjoyed to go to WKirby and use the new” automated machines” I do not understand! Rubbish! Most people hate automated machines.

When you phone the number they give you on the Closure letter there is no one to receive the call. Surprise!

HSBC don’t give a damn. They are money saving and leaving customers to get on with the inconvenience of it.

Unfortunately I can’t get to the bank in the morning to be protesting.

Who would have ever thought, The Hongkong and Shanghai Bank closes a branch in Hoylake and there is uproar amongst the citizenry……… where have we arrived at?

Like it or not, every bank, like every business, is here to make money. The only reason they’d look to close Hoylake is if it doesn’t receive enough custom to make money. Why don’t you try offering a £20 per customer per annum contribution to keeping the bank acct and therefore the bank open. If you’re naive enough to believe because it’s your money, you should have access to it for free, in this day and age that just isn’t going to happen. And yes I bank with them too.

Finally, unlike our own banks, HSBC, didn’t take any bailout from anyone in the recent banking crisis. Because they run their business so well is probably the reason why shutting a branch in a dying town seems like such a good idea.

We were there with the Wirral News at 9-30 until 10am PLEASE everyone write in to the Bank to show the number of people annoyed by the decision.
The petition will be in Melrose Hall on Sunday from 11am to 4pm and Monday 10-12
Tuesday 10 till 12. Tell everyone.
OK there are cash machines BUT what about the Paying IN from shops and individual businesses they cannot go to West Kirby due to the time wasted AND NO PARKING. Some shops only have 1 assistant so close for 10 minutes to go to the Quadrant, how long will it take to go to Moreton or West Kirby??
West Kirby and Moreton have several banks each, why should Hoylake have none???

Should we be writing to the HSBC with solutions a ideas to try to overcome this problem. I am assuming that HSBC has identified that this branch is costing to much to keep open. Would it be possible to persuade the bank to share a service elsewhere in Hoylake? Is there a venue where HSBC could have a presence but save on overheads, therefore meeting the required reduction in costs but retaning a service in Hoylake?

They say there simply arent enough customers going through the door, and yet I always have to queue when I go.

Banks seem to work on the princple, lowest cost, poor service, highest fees they can getaway with. In Canada they are building super branches, combinhg two or three locations in one building no more staff, just longer lines, cut the overhead, raise the profit. No Canadian banks suffered great losses and even made money in the economic slowdoen. In banking big profit poor service.
