Secrets of Hoylake parish church are to be revealed as part of the Wirral Heritage Open Days programme on Saturday, September 8, from 10am-4pm.
Everyone is invited to come along and join guided tours divulging the truth about the church’s ghost stories, the comic efforts of a bungling safe-cracker and many other tales. There will be quiz-sheets for kids, music and song from folk guitarist Brian O’Ryan and Friends, and light refreshments will be available.
At the same time a member of the congregation, Peter Surridge, will be doing a sponsored paint-in, putting the finishing touches to a still life oil painting in aid of charity. Sponsors will receive numbered tickets and the painting will be won by the holder of the winning number.
The ticket will be drawn next day, Sunday, September 9, after the annual Lifeboat parade and service to be held at St Hildeburgh’s, the ‘Lifeboat Church,’ at 11am. All are welcome to come and meet Hoylake’s RNLI heroes at the church, on the corner of The King’s Gap and Stanley Road, Hoylake.
For more details, contact Rev Paul Rossiter on 632-3897 or Peter Surridge on 632-5507.
hello I have not been able to keep up with the Hoylake page due to some so and so hijacking my e.mails and contacts…however this is my new e.mail address if anyone is interested.
Also I see the article about St Hilderburg’s ..what are these “ghost” stories..is there any way I can find out ?
Again can anyone tell me about the Golden Orchid on Market Street..has it changed its’ name and is it still open? I was actually born there when it was Billy’s only obviously we used Charles Street to go in and out. I am hoping one day to go there for a meal so that I can also have a sneaky look round upstairs if poss and see how it has changed over the last 60 odd years…a lot naturally
many thanks Sheila
Hi Sheila
Your email address won’t be displayed unless you enter it in the text of a comment. Probably best not to make it public if you’ve been hacked recently.
The Golden Orchid is now called Peppercorn and yes it’s still open.
