Friday Photo: The Dale Estate

the dale estate

Here’s a great old photo courtesy of Ian Davies of the old Dale Estate upon which now reside Avondale, Ferndale, Dovedale and Clydesdale roads. In the photo you can see the building at the bottom of Trinity Road. From what I can make out the photographer was a Mr B Clarke of Homestead, Hoylake.

What can you tell me about the Dale Estate? Feel free to share your thoughts!

According to the 1871 Ordnance Survey Map the main entrance to the Dale Estate was via a driveway which commenced from were the junction of Trinity Road/Grove Road and Black Lane are today . There was a Lodge for the gatekeeper situated there and a photo does exist of that residence . I remember in the 1960`s photos of the Dale Estate were on display in the Parish Church. It`s wonderful to see the photos from yesteryear of Hoylake as it used to be not much more than a hundred years ago.
