Many thanks to Phil Wall who sends in the above photo of the Plasterers Arms. Phil writes:
In 2004 Bob, the then landlord of the Plasterers, decided to revive the old custom whereby all customers of the pub were photographed outside. This apparently had occurred in years gone by but this was the first time it had been done for many many years. It was also as far as I’m aware the last. It was taken on 11 July 2004 and I was the photographer
If you think you’re in the photo click it for a larger view. Now, if you’ve got a similar photo from lots of years gone by then feel free to send one in!
By the way, there’s a website for the Plasterers.
Fantastic idea – hopefully in another hundred years this will be a featured photo of historical interest. The photo brings back buried memories of taking the short cut through back sea view to get to the newsagents and Grove Park…this may not make sense to anyone other than ex-pats, but the photo is very evocative of English life, and the lovely town that Hoylake is.
My late husband Albert and I left Hoylake in 1999 but were regulars at the Plasterers, we mainly went to the quizzes on a Sunday in the latter years. Al was born just around the corner in Grove Road.
I am amazed that I cannot remember many of the faces in this picture, must be the old age or is it that the people have changed that much?
Does anyone remember the time in the 1970s when the Plasterer’s was “busted” for serving after 10.30pm ? terrible, terrible crime.
