Hoylake Dairy Fire 1977 3

A rare trip back to the 1970s for this week’s Friday Photo!

This set of photos capturing a fire at the dairy on the Carr Lane Estate in 1977 was kindly sent in by Julian Triggs, whose mother Jennifer took the photos. I gather there a strike in force by the fire brigade at the time so I presume that the armed services stepped-in to extinguish the fire.

What do you remember of the fire – judging by the crowd in the photos it was possibly a decent blaze?!

Great to see the old police cars! If you’ve got some great photos of Hoylake taken in the 70’s please do feel free to send them in!

Very evocative photos – for me as a child born in the sixties, the seventies were the last decade before the world sped up and became a lot more complicated. I wonder if the rather cold-looking bobby in the panda car knew my father…?

I was wondering if your mum was “Jenny” nee Robinson who married Dave Triggs and moved to South Africa?

        Regards
        Bernie

the fire was at holmes farm in 1977 ,as we lived in george road you could see the smoke rising,so all the kids headed over to have a look,i can rmember talking to the soldiers who had old green goddess fire engines, they were from the border regiment and had been covering the firemans strike, they also had a few r.a.f.fireman there putting out the flames,i think they were there overnight damping down the hay.
