Here’s another photo of a Hoylake Volunteer Fire Brigade Crew kindly sent in by Syd Bird.
Syd dates this photo somewhere between 1880 and 1899 and comments: “The man in the drivers seat (not facing the camera) is my great grandfather Jesse Bird and the man standing below him to his left is his brother Richard Bird.”
The horse-drawn carriage was, by the 1920s, replaced with a motorised appliance as we can see in this photo. And the uniforms gained more buttons.
Good to see many of the crew with pretty impressive facial hair. Movember is nothing new then!

does anyone know were abouts the building in the picture with the firemen and their fire appliance could be. somewhere in Hoylake i would guess. All ideas greatly received please.
