Here’s an old photo kindly sent to me by Arthur Dawes (left on middle row) of a Gt Meols School football team from 1938.
The rumour at the time was that you shouldn’t take your son to the local barbers for a hair cut in the afternoon. A pint or two of brown over bitter in The Railway at lunchtime might be good for you but it does make for a somewhat uneven fringe! Spot the string for a lace on the boot second on the left.
On a more serious note, would it have been likely that some of these boys fathers would, within a year, be fighting in WW2?
