And we’re back!
I like these pastel-coloured houses that can be found in Lake Road …possibly the most colourful row of properties in Hoylake? Though the range of soft colours is something relatively new as this streetview from September 2009 shows a more sombre row of houses.
Does anyone know the history of Lake Road? When were the houses built and were they once fisherman’s cottages?
I love this photo.
Ours used to be the pink house (credit to my husband who chose the colour). We loved being part of a colourful street up until last year, fabulous neighbors and a few good street parties to get to know one another. The houses were built around 1870 and most had the lovely brick patterned front still seen on number 3 on the other side of the road. As you would imagine, they are built on the sand dunes, quite odd to see sand under your floorboards when renovating!
My husbands family lived at no 21 – and 19 + 21 were built after the others either side of them because the land was owned by someone else originally and they wouldn’t sell it. Apparently residents from the immediate area of Lake Road and Strand Road had washing lines across the land and dried their washing there.
We love it.
Our house was built in 1869.
I don’t know who lived in these houses originally, but we did see in the 1901 census that a carpenter lived at ours.
