Hoylake In Bloom News

flower tub

Pictured (not one of my best!) is one of the newly planted tubs along Market Street. The tubs are maintained by the volunteer Hoylake In Bloom team and Jan Foster has emailed me to say:

We had a huge amount of volunteers on both de-planting day and planting day. Anyone who wishes to join us is very welcome. Anyone is very welcome to de-head, weed or water so long as they don’t remove flowers.

We have to raise the money for the plants ourselves. One way to raise funds is for people to join Friends of Hoylake and Meols in bloom at a cost of just £5 a year for a single membership or £7 per family.

Our big fundraiser of the year is the garden party at 11 Ethelbert Lane, Meols (the garden was a finalist in the daily Mail garden of the year competition 2008) June 21st from 2pm. There will be a plant and cake bring and buy sale.

Contact Jan by phone on 07725 540049 or just turn up on the day – it is £3.50 to enter the garden.

Also look out for the teams newsletters in the notice boards – there’s one at the entrance to Queens Park for example and another in Meols Parade Gardens.

Oh by the way, excuse the personal plea for help but can anyone tell me how to successfully care for geraniums over the winter? I’m going to buy some more for my patio pots but I’d like them to last for more than one season.

News from Friends of Hoylake and Meols in bloom.
Children from Holy Trinty school, led by Mrs Protheroe, planted hundreds of spring flowering bulbs in Grove park on Tuesday afternoon. A huge thank you to them for starting of, what we hope, will be a regeneration of this park. Two planters similar to our high street planters will soon be in place in the playgroud area.
Please could we respectfully ask people to keep their dogs out of this area and to clear up any mess in the rest of the park. We know most dog owners are very carefull but just a few spoil it for everyone else. It was very unpleasent having to clean up before the children came on Tuesday. Fortunately, as usuall, my pockets
were full of (clean) poo bags.
Donations for flowers have been pouring in. A huge thank you to all who have donated. We hope our efforts with the winter planting will be as good as the summer!
If anyone is interested in the regeneration of Grove park please phone Vicky on 6322646

It is good to hear of the fund raising for Hoylake in Bloom. I used to be a member of Hoylake and Meols Open Parks and Spaces and as soon as I can get hold of £5 I will be joining again. Hoylake looks really lovely with the planters and the tree all lit up at night in the Row looks beautiful.
