Spotty Blue Teapot

spotty blue teapotChildren-friendly cafe The Spotty Blue Teapot closed approximately a month ago and is now trading as McKinnells Coffee Shop. The shop front signage however has not yet been replaced.

The Spotty Blue Teapot opened in early April 2011 with the aim of offering a unique child-friendly environment. It was a winner at this year’s Wirral Tourism Awards (details). The founders secured a grant of £26,255 prior to opening as part of the Merseyside Rural Leader Programme. Other local businesses including Sheldrakes Restaurant in Heswall, Thornton Manor Marquee and The Wro in West Kirby (which is seeking planning permission to expand) also secured funding from this programme – pdf document)

Women’s British Open Golf

Royal Liverpool Golf Club is hosting the 2012 Women’s British Open championships between 13-16 September. Leading players confirmed to play include World number one, Yani Tseng, Paula Creamer, Cristie Kerr and Michelle Wie.

Merseyrail has announced that services on the Wirral line will be affected with trains arriving/departing from Hoylake and not West Kirby from Thursday September 6 for 13 days to allow for construction of a level crossing from Morpeth Road to the practice ground.

Road Resurfacing

Several side roads off Market Street and North Parade have been resurfaced within the last week. The resurfacing consists of a thin layer of asphalt spread on top of the existing road surface.

Red Arrows

It has been confirmed that the Red Arrows will display at Lifeboat Day on August Bank Holiday Monday.

Beach Grass

The spartina grass on the beach has visibly spread over the last couple of months, particularly to the left of the lifeboat station. It was November 2010 when a large area of grass was last cleared with mechanical diggers.
