A few weeks ago I mentioned that it’d be great to see some photos of Hoylake from the 60’s and 70’s. So many thanks to John Piatt for sending in the above photo taken outside Hoylake Library in 1975. The chaps in the funky flares are from left-to-right: John, Pete, Paul and Barry. Do you recognise anyone? And there’s a bonus point for anyone able to name the LP!
Below is a photo of a Hoylake football team from the 1920’s. Alan Veals, who lives on the Isle of Lewis and kindly sent in the photo says Leslie Veals, his father, is the third from the left. What’s the letter W for on the shirts? Please leave a comment if you recognise anyone.
Below are two photos of the collapsed promenade wall on Meols Parade, kindly sent in by Graham Thwaite. These photos most probably tie-in with this other, previously published photo of Meols Parade wall being repaired.
and here’s a second view:
Hi John,
I recognise all the faces ……….. can only name Barry Banks standing on the left of the group.
John Piot is standing on the left.
oops Piatt
I’m Pretty sure the album Barry Banks is holding is Hard Nutz, Nutz where a big liverpool band at the time, featuring our own Kenny Newton from Meols on Keyboards, I think its still available on iTunes, a great album, but so sad that the drummer John Mylett died on while on holiday, the Moonstone pub in Liverpool was renamed after him.
no its not hard nutz. barry
You tell ’em, Barry! Wasn’t it just “Nutz”? Bonus points for recognising the badge on my left lapel..>!
Aaah! NUTZ TOO !!!!
The 70’s pic is definately Barry Banks on the right & Paul Cullen next to him, Not sure about the other 2 guys I probably know them but my memories have faded!! The LP was probably nicked from me at a party!!
Looks like Nutz Too
Take a look at: http://www.spirit-of-metal.com/album-groupe-Nutz-nom_album-Nutz_Too-l-en.html
It’s John Piatt on the left by the way. So who is the chap next to John?
Wow guys, i remember John, Paul and Barry coming to our house as they were all friends of Ian my brother and nights in The Lake with them.
I remember them going to the YMCA at the end of Hoyle Rd. I knew Paul Cullen as ‘Beanhead’ !
Hi John
I won’t stick my neck out too far in case Barry shouts at me again, but its potentially a “Yes” badge, I had one which was blue on a yellow background. Judith I thought your brother was Billy, who I went to school with, din’t your Mum and Dad have a Cafe at the top of Newton Road? Anyway I did get Nutz right, just the wrong album, I want half a point for that.
Hi Martyn
Another half point ha ha – it’s actually 2 YES badges. OK take a full point…
Still have the badges… 🙂
Just looking over the years postings and can’t believe I missed this one! Talk about a blast from the past guys! Faces I remember so well and the album and the badges.Still have that album but now no record player to hear it,haha! Hope you are all well out there…. 🙂
Hi Gail
Soooooooooooo long ago but still was fun being a teenager in Hoylake! I’m sure I’m still 17 ha ha
