Revised plans to redevelop Hoylake tennis courts have been submitted to Wirral Council.
St Luke’s Methodist Church is seeking outline planning permission (documents) to build a mixed, 14-dwelling development of houses and apartments on the site of St Luke’s tennis club in Charles Road, Hoylake. The tennis courts (pictured) are located opposite the car park behind The Row, Market Street. The previous application, submitted in August last year was for a larger 17-dwelling development. The initial application was withdrawn last November.
The development will have to include some affordable housing and consists of the following:
- 4 three bedroom houses
- 2 one bedroom apartments
- 8 two bedroom apartments
A survey of local tennis facilities has been undertaken (detail) and concludes that “Hoylake is very well endowed with tennis facilities particularly in comparison with surrounding townships of Moreton, Heswall and West Kirby”. The survey reports that St Luke’s Tennis Club has 26 playing members and 10 non-playing members who play on the courts two mornings and one evening per week.
It has been previously suggested that as the tennis club was created as a war memorial, St Luke’s would “ensure that a suitable continuation of this memorial should be established in due course”.
