I’ve just noticed that back in August Sainsbury’s submitted a planning application for new Sunday opening times.
The company who run their Sainsbury’s Local store in Hoylake on Market Street, have applied for permission to have opening times of 8am-10pm Monday-Sunday.
Even though the store has permission to open on a Sunday from 10am until 6pm it currently opens at 12pm. I do not know why they open the store on Sunday at 12pm when they could open at 10am?
In their supporting documentation Sainsbury’s state that the Co-op store also on Market Street already has permission to trade between the hours of 8am-10pm on a Sunday.
You can read the full planning application here – a decision is still pending.

I seem to remember that like the approval of the planning permission for this Sainsbury store the opening times were also a little controversial. The Sunday opening hours were delayed due to the number of parking places required for customers and staff in what is an already congested road due to the Sunday church congregation parking. May be Sainsbury thinks we have forgotten about this now we are used to picking up our lobster and Champagne 7 days a week!
