Town Team: Hoylake gets £10,000 grant

Mary PortasHaving missed out on selection as one of the 12 Town Teams and with it a significant government grant, Hoylake has now been awarded a Town Team Partner £10,000 grant.

Retail guru Mary Portas (pictured) inspired a government scheme to put public money into local projects aimed at regenerating struggling local high streets. Portas of course is no stranger to Hoylake as she came Market Street to revamp our local green grocers that featured in her TV show three years ago.

Earlier this week, Local Growth Minister Mark Prisk announced that 300 villages and towns across the country were to receive grants of £10,000 and a package of support, which includes help from the Government as well as advice and support from leading retail experts.

Your local Community Interest Company (CIC), Hoylake Village Life and more specifically members of their Hoylake Town Team Partnership can now use the grant to kickstart retail-led projects in Hoylake. Keep an eye on their website for more news.

Other areas in Wirral to receive a grant include Moreton Cross, Sea Bank Road in New Brighton and Birkenhead town centre.

Brilliant! What are the plans for spending it? 10k won’t go very far, it needs very careful thought, but improving the retail offer has to be top of the list in order to bring people and and indeed keep local people shopping local. We do not need any premium priced shops or indeed any more barbers!

Delighted to hear about Grant – maybe we should ask Mary Porter for some ideas
