Friday Photo: Old Punch Bowl

punch bowl

And we’re back!

Here’s a photo kindly sent in by Syd Bird of the original Punch Bowl pub on Market Street (click for larger). Apparently the original building was demolished in the 1930’s in order to widen the main road.

The current Punch Bowl is a large building – did it once offer accommodation?

A great picture – and you can see thesign saying stabling. In the census, it says that there was a Punchbowl in the 1840s and my grandmother could remember the buidling in the picture being pulled down in the 1930s. Wondered if anyone knew when the builidng in the picture was built…….
