Christmas Tree Festival

Tree fest 2012 trees

HOYLAKE’S BIG SWITCH-ON!

Christmas in Hoylake will start with a big switch-on at St Hildeburgh’s famous Christmas Tree Festival – bigger and better than ever with a record 40 decorated trees in the beautiful church – on Friday, December 6, at 7.30pm.

The switch-on, by the child who wins a tree decoration competition at the town’s Holy Trinity Primary School, will launch the three-day festival, starting with a Christmas concert and singalong led by renowned Wirral guitar and vocals group Brian Lupton and Friends, followed on Friday with wine and mince pies.

Over Saturday and Sunday there will be four visits by Santa Claus and numerous children’s activities, from face-painting to cake-decorating; a bustling Christmas market offering festive gifts, decorations and much more; plus tasty refreshments.

Live music throughout the festival will include performances by Holy Trinity School choir, Anamal Dance Company and Choir, Hoylake Choral Society and St Hildeburgh’s organist, Stephen Claus.

Visitors will receive tickets (£2.50 for adults, free to children) and use them to vote for their favourite tree in three categories – original, fun and elegant. The festival will close with a traditional candlelit Christingle service at 4pm on Sunday, December 8.

Festival proceeds will be shared between St Hildeburgh’s and a number of charities.

The full weekend programme is on the church’s website at www.sthildeburgh.org.

Press release issued on behalf of St Hildeburgh’s Church, Hoylake, by Peter Surridge, hon publicity officer, St Hildeburgh’s Church, Hoylake (632-5507).
