On Sunday 9th May, it’ll be the Grand Opening of the Hoylake Model Boat Club. The actual official opening the lake itself took place last September.
The refurbishment of the boating lake (well done to those concerned!) has been a great success and the boating lake is now an asset for Hoylake as well as a place to have some family fun.
Here’s a few of the highlights of the Grand Opening day:
- steering competitions
- model boat display
- on-water displays
- remote control model truck display
- face painting
- raffles
Everyone is welcome, from families to other model boat clubs.
If you’re not sure where the boating lake is you’ll find it right next to the new lifeboat station on the promenade at the bottom of Hoyle Road, Hoylake.

The Hoylake Model Boat Club are doing AN EXCELLENT JOB maintaining the Lake for their Club Days and for all the other people of the district who are now enjoying this wonderful facility every day. Thanks to them for the benches, and, as they go from strength to strength it can only get better. Those of us who campaigned to keep the Lake are delighted.

Agreed, the boating lake and the ‘in bloom’ team are inspirational. It shows what local people can achieve. Seeing the photos of the model boat club hosing down the nicely painted boating lake took me straight back to us all doing the same on a larger scale at the outdoor pool in 1976. I particularly remember cleaning out the filter beds which are somewhere beneath the wonderful new RNLI station.

Absolutely, was there again today with the kids and friends, after going to the Hoylake Cottage Hospital Centenary Open Day, confirming yet again that Hoylake was the best place in the country for us to move to. And we enjoyed a really good cup of coffee from the shop at the bowling green.
Thanks to all who made all this possible and who continue to keep it going. We’ll be at the grand opening!
