Here’s an update from Mike Foster on the Floral golf bag competition:
As many of you will be aware The Friends of Hoylake and Meols in Bloom have been running a “Themed Floral Golf Bag” competition open for under 16y groups, to coincide with the 2014 Open Golf coming to our village. The idea behind the competition was to involve the community with the Open Golf, I am very pleased to say it has been very successful with locals and visitors alike casting around 1500 votes, and still 2 1/2 days to go. Everybody that votes (no cost involved) receives one of our smiley face sunflower stickers saying ‘I helped the village smile’. This ended up with hundreds of people each day including police and officials wearing our logo stickers around the village and hopefully at the Open Golf, wonderful.
I have updated our website  with many pictures of the event, including the Mayor and Mayoress’s and the Captain of the Royal Liverpool Golf Club visiting the event to choose their favourite floral golf bag. We have had visitors from all over world including Alaska, China, Spain, Netherlands, California and Germany, not forgetting bonny Scotland, the Emerald Isles and Wales. It has been a truly global event.
Open golfer Matt Southgate came and voted for his favourite as did many others associated with the Open. It has been amazing how everybody has all joined together to make this years Open Golf a real community event, we even had the designer of Wilson golf bags in America coming and was so impressed with the Floral golf bags, he stayed and helped bring the floral bags out for display.
Please have a look at our website, www.hoylakeinbloom.co.uk apart from the golf related pictures take a look at the “what we do” tab to see how we aim to keep the village, parks and gardens smiling all year round.
Important notice – Due to the heavy all day rain and wind forecast for Saturday we have cancelled the children’s craft day, and will hold this asap in one of the parks, Please accept my apologies for this but it just would not be practical to hold an outdoor craft day in poor weather conditions. Please keep a check on our website and facebook page for updates. The Floral Golf Bag competition should hopefully carry on regardless.
