new-house

Not everyone will have noticed the new-build house (above) on the corner of Back Sea View and Grove Place – I think it fits in quite well myself, how about you?

It was built on the site of this garage and yard:

And on Grove Place this old cottage always looks attractive whether it’s summer or winter:

I presume these old cottages were once lived in by local fisherman – anyone know anything about them?

I live within close distance to the new cottage on the corner of Back Sea View. I also think that it fits in well with the surroundings. Very tastefully designed.

I lived at the end house in Grove Road No. 32 on the corner of Grove Place, which was demolished along with three others and replaced with modern houses in the 70’s. When i was a child. My friend, Carol Foster lived in the smaller cottage in the pic of the old cottages and her nan lived in the double fronted one. (Dove Cottage) Her brother is Charles Foster of television fame. The shop was Coogans when I was a child, he was a grocer. Later Stan Jones opened it and it was licensed to sell beer and cigarettes. We always thought it funny that the family lived in the small cottage and Carol’s nan lived all on her own in the larger one.

I am almost sure that this house once belonged to Mrs Date and her daughter Dianna. She had a pram shop on Market Street
Next door to her cottage, was Stan Jones’s Off Licence.
Anyone else have memories of this house?

Yes Mrs Date and her daughter Diana lived there for a while. The cottage next door I think belonged to the Foster family. They had a daughter called Carol and a son called Bunty? Just a vague memory.

that’s right Rose the Fosters did live in the house next to the Date family, further up was the small off license owned by mr and mrs Coogan whose daughter was a air hostess with BOAC who was tragically killed on a flight to America,
