HSBC Hoylake now closed

hoylake hsbc

The Hoylake branch of HSBC was scheduled to close last Friday (18th, March) – that now leaves Hoylake without a high-street bank branch.

I haven’t been passed to double check but I’m informed the scheduled closure has taken place. Hoylake residents can use the post office in Market Street for more limited services or travel to West Kirby where are there branches for Barclays, HSBC and Natwest.

Will another high street bank now setup a branch in Hoylake? Does anybody know what is planned for the HSBC premises in The Quadrant?

Yes Katie & I were walking past yesterday and there is a notice in the window stating that it is permanently closed. All closures are sad but in the big shop adjoining there were people fitting it out. For what use was not clear.

I heard one rumour that it was going to be made into a Tesco Express.

HSBC closed on friday, cash machine as well. Sainsburys cash machine went down today as well, can you imagine if it had been the Golf or Lifeboat day and people were dashing about to get cash to spend in Hoylake!!!! What would they have thought about the place???

The Willson Green plans for the building next door to the bank, which are available on the Wirral Council website, appear to include a Yorkshire Bank.

I don’t know if this is still the case but that’s what the plans say.

Thanks Colin – this project seems to be taking rather a long time. Anyone know if it’s stopped?

I really don’t know, John. It looked like they were doing pointing or rendering on the exterior but you’re quite right, it does seem to have gone on and on.

The plan seems to show that it’s going to be an agency or branch for the Yorkshire Building Society rather than the Yorkshire Bank. A quick look at their website doesn’t indicate that they offer business banking. Nor do the plans show any ATM.

To follow up my previous post I see that the building I mentioned being fitted out is to be the spotty blue teapot tea room (http://www.thespottyblueteapot.co.uk/) due to open on 1 April. I wish them every success.

Further along Market Street I see that Pickled Peppers sandwich bar appears to be shut judging from the pile of post and the ‘to Let’ sign So with ‘Somethings Brewing’ that’s two establishment that are chasing the same trade have not bees succesful.

      Hi Gerry

Yes that’s right, I mentioned the Spotty Blue Teapot in an earlier news update. I didn’t know it was opening on the 1st April – thanks for the update.

All Hoylake should say a big” Thank You “to the wonderful people who tend the flowers in Market Street.

It is such a pleasure to enter Hoylake from West Kirby and see the mass of colour that greets you.

Shame about HSBC. We need as many pillar brands in Marketstreet as we can. Sainsbury’s is important to us. A WHS Smiths would be great? What would other visitors to this blog like? Pizza Express?

To my mind the shops on Market Street that ARE important:: Hoylake Fishmongers,Three Sisters Greengrocers,Bill Page Butcher,Hoylake News newsagent, & Fahy’s Bakers & Confectioners. Plus the cafes, teashops & restuarants. Sainsbury is not important as it does not offer anything you can just as easily elsewhere. The shops listed here are special, locally owned and run, offering a personal service you will never get in the likes of Sainsbury or other national chains

Pretty peeved that we now have to go to West Kirby to do any form of worthwhile banking. Roll on digital currency and NFC.

There is also a rumour that cheques are on the way out. However, one of my bosses has been doing some internet research and the relevant trade body (name of which escapes me) clearly states that this is at least 8 years ahead and only then if (a) a viable alterntaive is found and (b) it is actually being used. This is at least temporarily good news, as scrapping cheques would cause absolute havoc to many groups I work for/with, and I’m sure every one of oyu could find an example of where you use a cheque.

On the down side, has anyone noticed that cheque guarantee cards no longer guarantee anything? ??

    I had to laugh…

I live in Hoylake and bank with HSBC. I’ve just recieved a letter with the reb banner headline “Saturday opening at a branch in your area” only, what, four weeks after the branch in my area closed?

Yep, I got one too – it only applies to Heswall branch and then the counters will be closed anyway! The staff that are there are only for advice. Why the h**l don’t they just put the paying-in machines in a wall like the ATM’s? Some banks put them inside the outer doors, outside the inner doors (if you see what I mean) and your bank card opens the outer doors. Perfect!
