Railway line fatality

merseyrail trainA man died after being struck by a train on the Merseyrail West Kirby line late on Friday evening.

British Transport Police have not confirmed the exact location of the incident but say it was between the Carr Lane crossing at Moreton (presumably the crossing next to the waste-water treament plant) and the Carlton Lane crossing at Meols and happened at 11.20pm. The incident is not being treated as suspicious.

In November 2009 a man was killed at the Carlton Lane crossing.

Separately, Network Rail are currently considering closing the level crossings at Sandringham Avenue and Elm Grove – report.
