Stalled hotel project: Workmen back on site

hoylake spa hotelBuilding contractors are back on site on the stalled Royal Hilbre Hotel & Spa development on Meols Drive.

The signage has been taken down and the hotel website content has been removed. Unconfirmed rumours are that the building is either (1) to be replaced with two detached houses or; (2) to be converted to a nursing home again. Planning applications for either of these potential schemes have not yet been submitted.

Previously, I’ve reported that the developers had hoped to open the hotel in 2012 once additional funding was secured.

I am so disapointed that this may not be a Spa Hotel. It is right on my doorstep and I was hoping I could have joined to have a daily swim and go there with my friends for a Spa Day 🙁 Perhaps the new building contractors / owners should do a survey in the area and see what the residence have to say??

Same thoughts Tracey – I was also hoping there might be a spa with a pool to go for a regular swim . I would join a membership scheme for the privilege.

It looks like our hopes of being able to go for a swim have been quashed!! It looks like it is going to be a care home :-(. …. I really wish they had done some sort of survey as I am sure there would of been a number of people who would have gladly paid for a membership.

I understand that the new owners are developing the place into a residential care home for the mentally ill. They don’t need planning permission to do so. I guess that’s why neighbours/residents were not consulted beforehand.

There is a planning application for substantial alterations on the WBC website: http://www.wirral.gov.uk/planning/DC/AcolNetCGI.gov?ACTION=UNWRAP&RIPNAME=Root.PgeResultDetail&TheSystemkey=91592

Interestingly I have just checked out the web site for the Royal Hilbre http://royalhilbre.wix.com/royal-hilbre-hotel#!__welcome/the-gym and although the site isn’t working properly it’s back on line.
