An expansion of the Burbo Bank wind farm in Liverpool Bay has been given government approval.
Energy Secretary Ed Davey has today announced (BBC) that eight renewable energy projects are to go ahead including an expansion of the Burbo Bank wind farm that you can see from Hoylake promenade.
You can read the background to the plans here and here. The existing off-shore wind farm consists of 25 turbines and the expansion will increase that to about 100 turbines (though I can’t find the exact figure online).
Dong Energy, the Danish firm behind the project, are currently proposing changes to the airspace above the wind farm as the turbines can interfere with aeroplane radar signals.
