Bin Collections Update

Last weeks grey recycling bin collections did not take place and you may find that your green bin doesn’t get collected tomorrow either. The bin collection teams are not going to attempt to catch up on last weeks missed collections – so if your grey bin is full you’ll need to store your recycling in something else or visit West Kirby tip and use the recycling facilities there (there are additional collection services that can take all type of rubbish for recycling, even if it is mixed together).

You should put your green bin out tomorrow although collections are only being made along roads that are gritted and are deemed to be safe.

Brown garden waste bins are not been collected until the week commencing 25th of Jan.

For further information read this Wirral Council page.

    From the Council’s website (http://wirral.gov.uk/News/news_0001226.html):

“Biffa will attempt to collect all bins placed out on main roads that have been gritted and residents living along these routes are advised to place the colour bin that is due for collection this week out on their usual collection day.
Regrettably, Biffa will not be able to catch up on last week’s missed collections and residents are now being asked to wait until their next scheduled collection day for the colour of bin that was missed.
Garden waste collections will be suspended until January 25th to allow these crews to provide additional support for refuse and recycling collections.”

Is it just me or does this not make much sense? If 1) Biffa are only doing bins on gritted roads (i.e. less than usual) and 2) they’re making no attempt to catch up with what they missed last week, where’s the need to suspend garden waste collections and redeploy the crews? There’s no additional workload (indeed, there’s less).

I saw two bin lorries this morning on Market Street/Birkenhead Road. One for green bins and the other for grey bins …which they’re supposed to be leaving until next week.

No attempt made at all from what I could see to do any of the side roads.

I’m lucky enough to be one of the ones that had BOTH bins emptied today.

We finally got our grey recycling bins emptied today on Barton Road – still no sign of the actual (green) rubbish being shifted though.
