Many thanks to Syd Bird for this great old photo of Carlton Terrace. A few readers have commented on a previous Friday Photo of the old Burnetts Garage and today’s photo follows on rather nicely.
Notice that the Cottage Hospital doesn’t yet exist on the opposite of the main road. That dates this photo prior to 1910. We’re not sure when this photo was taken but Syd informs me that he has an old Ordnance Survey map from 1871 and Carlton Terrace appears on that. There are no other houses along Birkenhead Road (same side) or Bertram Drive either.
Note that the photo over on the Burnetts Garage site shows a turret that doesn’t appear in the photo above. In the old garage photo post, Nick Dovey mentioned a sanitorium …I’m not clear on this so answers on a postcard please!
These are lovely old properties and if you’d like to buy the one on the left-hand side then you can have a closer look at the sale particulars.
A couple of these properties are currently dental surgeries of course. An old boss of a software company I worked at had an uncle who, I think, once had a surgery here and lived just over the road in Deneshey Road. His surname was Collins I think – can anyone confirm this?
