Not too bad a day at all today; noticeably warmer than of late with a nice bit of sunshine too!
My trusty garden thermometer outside the back kitchen door was showing 12c at 1 o’clock. The minimum temperature it recorded over the winter was only -2c, so that’s not that cold really. That said, if it’s around 4c and you’re down on the promenade on a windy day it doesn’t half feel chilly! I’m presuming things’ll start to warm up now through the month, though Sunday night/Monday morning will be down to around 3c (I’m addicted to the weather forecast).
Due to the hard work of the volunteers at Hoylake & Meols in Bloom and a helping hand from Mother Nature, the spring flowers are popping-up right now throughout Hoylake. You’ll see daffodils in many a grass verge throughout the village and especially near The Quadrant. I snapped the cluster pictured above down in Meols Parade Gardens earlier. I haven’t checked yet but the snowdrops will have probably made an appearance by now in the Monkey Woods. I’ve seen a few crocus flowering and some other flowers that I probably should be able to put a name to but can’t.

Monkey Woods used to be accessed from Queens Park, not sure if you can get in that way now.
It is more or less behind the Catholic Church on Birkenhead Rd (St Catherine’s) and I think you exit from it in Egbert Rd, if my memory is correct?
The best display of spring flowers in Hoylake has to be in the graveyard on Trinity Road !
A mass of snowdrops is followed each year by a wonderful display of crocus, check it out.
monkey woods can still be reached through Queen,s Park a narrow path
near to Egbert Road. Many of us played there as children and I believe it was
once part of a local estate but I cannot remember the family who owned it.
It was called Monkey Puzzle Wood when I was a youngster – and I remember the Monkey Puzzle tree in there that gave it it’s name.

Does anyone know if there are any walking paths on the other side of the railway track where its very field-y? Or any other good dog walking spots other than the beach?
