The Poppies are a close harmony vocal trio comprising (left-to-right) Louise Brown, Justine Aldersey-Williams and Catherine Howard. Formed in January 2014 and based in Hoylake, they sing a variety of jazz and swing classics.
Forthcoming gigs include a set at Melrose Hall on 28th June (tickets £5 from Urbane gift shop) and a set alongside local singer/songwriters Jimmy Rae and Caroline England at Hoylake Sailing Club on 12th July – full details right here.
Among my earliest memories of Hoylake are when as a young girl i used to come here for our sunday school day out. if the weather was bad we would have lunch and tea in Hoylake Chapel church hall. which I recognised when i joined the Hoylake Choral Society. One year my friend and I were in charge of the tuck shop when a gust of wind sent all the pound notes blowing down the prom from Kings Gap end of the prom. needless to say we weren’t very popular.
