Snow Code published

Marine Road snow

Don’t worry – the weather in Hoylake hasn’t taken a turn for the worse just yet! That view of Marine Road was taken last winter on Jan 11th.

I’ve been prompted to use the photo as I’ve read that the government has just published the first official Snow Code. It’s a step-by-step guide to coping with a heavy snowfall. It seems like common sense to me but apparently last winter home owners were scared to clear snow from the pavement outside their homes in case they were sued if someone then slips.

Hopefully we won’t endure a prolonged cold snap in Hoylake this winter, but if we do and you feel you need to check the snow code before you get the shovel out of the shed then you’ll find it right here.

By the way, if you’ve got any good photos of Hoylake in winter (past or present) that you’d like to share then feel free to send them in via email (contact details) and I might publish a few of them. I’ve only taken a few myself and as is typical with several of my photos, they appear to have turned-out a bit wonky!

Yes of course – thanks for the proof reading Peter! Now corrected.

Funny that because when I was typing the item I had a memory block and couldn’t remember the road name at all. I initially called it Warren Drive …which is actually a nice road in Wallasey.

It seems that just me and one or two others have bothered to clear the pavement where I live, rendering walking along Barton Road a bit of a risk. Perhaps, like last year, it’s less the dread of litigation and more the fear of breaking into a sweat that’s making the difference? If everyone just clears that portion of the footpath that fronts their property nobody’s individual task will be too arduous and we’ll all get around a bit easier.

Come on, get your shovels out – think of it as a civic duty.
